Who We Are
At Your Service
Creative. Results-driven. Motivated. Inquisitive. Risk-taking. Innovative. Spirited. Ethical. Fun. These attributes aren’t things easily discernable from a resume. They are, however, the core characteristics Stratacomm looks for when someone wants to join us.
Those making the cut are a balance of seasoned professionals and rising stars. They are experts in transportation, energy and environment, infrastructure, defense and security, education, and healthcare, to name but a few areas. They are digital experts, policy wonks, powerful writers, special events mavens, and media junkies. This rich and varied blend of people and expertise allows us to build customized account groups that are tailored specifically for each client’s particular needs. Our people embrace a challenge and dig in to help our clients win. We create a dynamic culture that brings out the collective’s very best work.
We value the individual and cultivate the team. Together, we work hard, have fun, and understand that our reputation is built (and maintained) by two things: unmatched client service and winning results.

John Undeland
Senior Vice President & Partner
- Created and directs our growing infrastructure public outreach practice
- Directs our public safety awareness campaign practice
- Contributes to the management of the 35-person firm
John Undeland has been with Stratacomm since 1996, one of the firm's many long-standing senior leaders. While a public relations maven with a wide portfolio, he is an admitted transportation junkie.
As such, John is the enthusiastic leader of Stratacomm's infrastructure practice and highway safety awareness campaigns. He has a proven record of forward-thinking strategic planning and effective tactical execution. Tangible results – whether measured in opinion or behavioral shifts, monetary value of media placements or other metrics showing specific return on investment – are hallmarks of his programs.
John oversees Stratacomm's growing portfolio of transportation projects. The firm's flagship project is the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, a $2.5 billion project in the Washington, DC area. In support of his clients, John's navigation of the project's public image steered it from being a magnet for controversy to a point of regional pride. This success led to opportunities to build support for additional mega-projects, such as the Intercounty Connector in Maryland, the Anacostia Waterfront Initiative in Washington, DC and numerous other projects in the greater Washington region.
Additionally, John oversees a number of public safety awareness campaigns. Ranging from drunk driving to pedestrian safety, his teams consistently deliver results that raise awareness and shape positive behavioral change. John is a past board chairman of the Washington Regional Alcohol Program, a broad-based anti-drunk driving coalition. He is the 2010 recipient of the WRAP Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Contributions.
Before coming to Stratacomm, John managed public affairs for AAA. Previously, he worked in the White House, serving Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, where his responsibilities ranged from ghost-writing articles for the President and senior administration officials to helping manage the 24/7/365 news summary operation, a part of the White House Press Office. John began his career as an aide to a United States Senator.
