Bill Buff, Ron DeFore and John Fitzpatrick.
Creative. Results-driven. Motivated. Inquisitive. Risk-taking. Innovative. Spirited. Ethical. Fun. These attributes aren’t things easily discernable from a resume. They are, however, the core characteristics Stratacomm looks for when someone wants to join us.
Those making the cut are a balance of seasoned professionals and rising stars. They are experts in transportation, energy and environment, infrastructure, defense and security, education, and healthcare, to name but a few areas. They are digital experts, policy wonks, powerful writers, special events mavens, and media junkies. This rich and varied blend of people and expertise allows us to build customized account groups that are tailored specifically for each client’s particular needs. Our people embrace a challenge and dig in to help our clients win. We create a dynamic culture that brings out the collective’s very best work.
We value the individual and cultivate the team. Together, we work hard, have fun, and understand that our reputation is built (and maintained) by two things: unmatched client service and winning results.
Ron and two other partners founded Stratacomm in 1995 with a vision of building a communications firm that attracts exceptional talent, who are committed to providing superior client service, love what they do and have fun at the office. Mission accomplished. In addition to co-managing the firm, Ron specializes in media relations and public affairs work; he has served as a client spokesperson, and is a nationally-recognized authority on transportation, energy and environmental issues. Over the years, he has provided services to a variety of clients such as General Motors, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, smart USA, Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America, U.S. Department of Energy and many more.
Ron’s media relations skills have led to some of Stratacomm's biggest client successes, including front-page placements for clients in USA Today and People Magazine; hundreds of placements on network newscasts; and press conferences carried live on CNN.
Ron started his PR career as director of public affairs for the Peace Corps before moving on to the Department of Transportation, where he served as deputy assistant secretary for public affairs and as director of public and consumer affairs at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Prior to his government service he was in television production and the news business, holding positions in Los Angeles with KTLA-TV, "The Steve Allen Show," Paramount Television, and Billy Jack Productions. His roots in the media business should come as no surprise. Ron's dad, the late Don DeFore, has a star on Hollywood Boulevard, co-starred in many feature films in the 1940s and 1950s, was the first next-door-neighbor on the "Ozzie and Harriet Show," and is perhaps best known for his role as "Mr. B" in the 1960s TV sitcom "Hazel." His mom, Marion Holmes DeFore, was the featured vocalist with two nationally known recording acts in the 1930s and 1940s. Creativity is in Ron's DNA.
